I get asked a lot by potential clients “Will you let me know what to bring to our newborn photo shoot?” And YES of course I will! As a client, when you book with me I will send you a questionnaire that will personalize and customize your photo shoot to YOUR preferences (I’ll ask you about props, poses, colors, etc), but I will also send you a full complete newborn prep guide with Lauren McCormick Photography. However; today I’m here to chat about just a few things that everyone can take to whomever they book!
Snacks
Snacks are very important. This is a longer photo shoot, and you should plan to bring some yummy snacks that will keep you tied over for a few hours. You’re of course welcome to run out to the grocery store to grab something if you need it, but being prepared ahead of time is great too! I included a banana and granola bar, because those are some of my easy go to snacks!
Water
It will be fairly warm in the studio to keep baby happy and content while I’m doing all the posing, wrapping, and generally messing with them. While it’s warm in there, you’re going to want some nice cold water. Bring a big bottle in case you tend to drink more – and tons of ice!
Diaper Bag
Of course bring your diaper bag so you have all your familiarities and creature comforts. I have plenty of receiving blankets and burp cloths, but you may want some of the other items that you regularly keep in your diaper bag.
Neutral Clothing
It’s great to go more neutral for this photo shoot so they focal point of the images is you and the baby, and the clothes don’t distract us from where we should be looking. I like to keep things within the same color palette, and not too many patterns (they can tend do photograph busier than normal).
Pacifier
Even if your baby hasn’t fully taken to a pacifier! It’s good to have one on hand. I’ll just be using it for a little while, and it’s a wonderful tool to help calm/soothe them. I do keep Soothie brand pacifiers in the studio in case you forget one!
Snacks for baby
However you’re feeding your baby, make sure to bring plenty of it. We will likely feed baby more than usual. Baby may get off schedule to get them a nice full belly and back to sleep. You’re welcome to bring a breast pump if you need to as well!
Diapers
Always pack double the amount of diapers (and wipes) you need! You just never know, and it’s better to be prepared than not.
These are the basics. But most importantly, come with love and patience for your new baby. Especially if there are sweet older siblings involved. Patience is key. I will do my best to get the best photos you can imagine, but a positive environment and patience will need to be present during the photoshoot!
